In recent years, pearls have become slightly less popular among the younger generations, apart from on special occasions such as weddings and other celebrations. This is because they represent the old school of thought on jewelry. Recently though, articles like a single pearl necklace or a pearl choker, have come storming back into popularity due to their amazing radiance and ability to almost dominate the attention when pieced with any outfit. Of course, you have a number of things to think through before you can decide on which necklace to buy.
Varieties of Single Pearl Necklace
There are far more variations when it comes to buying pearl necklaces than one would first think. They actually are available in a huge variety of types, sizes and believe it or not, even a large array or colors. Of course you a most likely familiar with the most common category of necklace– the cultured pearl necklace. These are grown, not harvested. The more expensive (and rare) forms of jewellery are the Tahitian black pearl necklace, South Sea pearl necklace and Akoya pearl necklace. Each Variety is uniform in size, shape and color (although range between silver and black). You can also find pink pearl necklaces, golden south sea pearl necklaces, and multicolor pearl necklace varieties in certain jewellers.
Of course, you need to be aware of the price of each of these types of pearl, both on their own and in a necklace. Pearls can vary greatly in price depending on their many qualities. So be wary before you buy one.
When A Single Pearl Necklace Just Isn’t Enough
Of course, if a single pearl necklace is not your thing, and instead feel you would be better off with a string of pearls, then you have more to think through. You have to decide also how long the strand of the necklace will be. The shortest is the collar (12-13 inches long), then the choker (14-15 inches). The Princess necklace can range between 16 – 18 inches, and a matinee necklace is 20 – 24 inches, and by far the longest is the opera and rope necklaces, being up to 36 inches in length! There are many creative variations on the traditional pearl necklace. You can find a cultured pearl necklace with numerous types of gemstones encrusted into the design, and fashioned from high carat white gold. These gemstones often use Cubic Zirconia and diamonds, rubies and emeralds of different hues. You can also add pearls of different colors, and perhaps also add other accessories, such as black pearl earrings
As you can see, there is a lot more to pearl necklaces than wearing them occasionally, and with new advances in jewellery making, you will find they will become more popular.
